The town of Kwinana is considered to be a rapid growth council with a new family moving in to the area every 12 hours. The Council estimates that within the next decade there will be over 7000 new homes constructed and the population will have doubled from what it is today. The current upgrades in the town centre are not only to accommodate the current residents but with a view to preparing for the thousands of new residents who will move in to the shire in the coming years.
The Kwinana town centre is currently undergoing a revitalisation with many of the major projects scheduled for completion in 2012. The revitalisation is a comprehensive program that includes the construction of new roads, footpaths and landscaping as well as the construction of some major new buildings.
The largest public works project is without a doubt the new Community Resource and Knowledge Centre. Work on this $22 million centre began in 2010 with funds from the Town of Kwinana, Lottery West and the federal government. This building will encompass a state of the art library, function hall, café, crèche as well as offices and meeting spaces for community groups. This project is due for completion in the next few months and will provide a cornerstone for the new Kwinana town centre. Once the Centre has been completed, work will then commence on the Town Square and this stage will bring to life the area designed as a focal point for the entire Kwinana community to enjoy.
