Whether you live in the Town of Kwinana or are thinking of moving in to the area one thing is certain – there are a lot of changes underway. The whole shire is undergoing a transformation. Each month we will bring you up to date with some of the changes. This month we will be looking at the massive renovations being undertaken at the Kwinana Hub.
Update on Kwinana Hub..
When Woolworths purchased the Kwinana Hub Shopping Centre there was much excitement around the redevelopment of this centre. It was not until June 2011 that the local council and Woolworths came to an agreement. As local residents will know the major developments are well and truly underway. Woolworths is expecting to have the wing with Woolworths in it to be completed by the end of April or early May and the whole project to be completed by the end of 2012, maybe early 2013.
The major upgrade of the Hub Shopping Centre will see almost double the current retail floor space, growing from 16,738m2 to 30,794m2 and encompassing a multitude of new shopping and dining experiences, mini major stores, speciality shops, Dick Smith, Reject Shop, Best and Less, Dan Murphy’s and a 2 Acre Big W department store. The redevelopment will also include brand new and increased car parking facilities as well as a new bus port and centre entry points.
As part of the overall project, Woolworths have also committed to $800,000 to be spent on Chisham Avenue redevelopment. This will greatly enhance all of the work currently being undertaken in this street, which will become the high street not only for Kwinana but the whole shire.
Whilst the existing Hub site looks like it has vanished under the cover of fencing and rubble, many businesses continue to trade including Woolworths and the post office.
